In 2024, just nine Democratic House incumbents won districts that gave Trump a majority. Representatives Don Davis, Gabe Vasquez, and Vicente Gonzalez ran 5, 6, and 7 points ahead of Kamala Harris, sustaining trust with their voters despite party losses across demographic groups. Ruy Teixeira will lead this conversation with Democrats who overcame the troubling trends he forecast in recent years: voters of color, particularly Hispanic voters, have become swing voters due to the party’s handling of immigration and border security, the cost of living, healthcare, and a range of economic and cultural issues. Ruy and Members will discuss the voting patterns of the median voter in South Texas, New Mexico, and North Carolina, the policies and messages needed to regain trust, and how their successes can inform how Democrats look at less favorable environments after 2026.
