It’s no secret that Democrats are losing rural America. Of the country’s 3,147 counties, roughly 2,000 are deemed “rural” by the Department of Agriculture. In 1996, Bill Clinton won 52% of rural counties. In 2012, Barack Obama won 25% of rural counties. In 2024, Kamala Harris won just 8% (yes, 8) of rural counties in America. As Democrats look to regain and sustain support in rural America, few in the Party know how to speak to the issues and needs of rural voters. In this session, hear from former CO-03 candidate Adam Frisch, who came just 546 votes short of beating Lauren Boebert in one of the largest and most rural congressional districts in the country, and Don Coover, who’s running for Congress in Kansas’ 2nd congressional district this cycle. The two will discuss what it looks like to be a rural Democrat, the issues and positions that win in rural counties, and how to substantively differentiate from the Democratic brand to regain trust among this critical demographic of voters.
